Tracy says bipartisan budget is best she’s seen

The Illinois Senate, in a rare bipartisan effort, overwhelmingly approved a new spending plan for the state as part of what is claimed to be a balanced budget.

Votes of 56-4 for the spending plan, and a companion spending plan 54-2.

The House followed suit Thursday giving their stamp of approval 97-14.

Quincy Republican Jil Tracy, who represents western Knox County, said that the budget was the best she’s seen in her time in the General Assembly.

Part of the funding included a surge of spending on infrastructure. “It had money that funds the Governor’s recently proposed Capital Bill,” said Tracy. “$2.5 billion going towards transportation and infrastructure repair, which is huge right now. We’ve recognized the roads need repaired.”

She also pointed out to higher spending in education that she was particularly happy with. “It allowed an increase to education and also higher education,” Tracy said.  “That includes our public universities and our community colleges and from Pre-K all the way through high school, so I thought that was a win.”

The budget now moves to Gov. Bruce Rauner’s desk.

Rauner in a statement Thursday says he will take “action quickly” to sign the FY19 budget into law.
