Knoxville native’s radio show goes national, comes to Galesburg

A local native has found success on a national level thanks to syndication of his Peoria-based radio program.

The Markley and van Camp Show became nationally syndicated earlier this year and starting today WGIL will be bringing their show to the airwaves in Galesburg.

Jamie Markley, a former FM95 voice, tells WGIL that while his show has some conservative tendencies, they’ve found a lot of success on the west coast in the Portland, Oregon market.

He attributes the success to him and his co-host, David van Camp’s, abilities to speak to everyday people. “They’re just regular folks like there would be in Abingdon, and Knoxville, and all around the Galesburg area,” said Markley. “There’s a lot of shared values throughout the country. When you think of Portland you’re thinking of a bunch of ANTIFA protesters, and there are a lot of people that are not down with that.

He says that the approach of the show is to find the humor in the news of the day.

While he didn’t start out in talk radio, he tells the story of how he got involved in it. “I talked with the general manager at WMBD, the talk station in Peoria, and I hadn’t listened to that much talk radio and he said ‘what do you think about talk?’ and I’m like ‘I don’t know man.’ I listened to a couple of shows that were just a couple of guys talking about what was going on in life, and I’m like… ‘yeah that actually sounds like a lot of fun.'”

He was joined on-air by fellow rock DJ Scott Robbins and later former news guy, van Camp. After finding success in Peoria, the show went national.

The Markley and van Camp Show can be heard in markets from Atlanta to Seattle. It will debut on WGIL starting at 2:00 p.m., right after the news.
