Rohweder gets seated on county board

The open seat on the Knox County Board following the death of District 3 board member Trisha Hurst has been filled.

Kyle Rohweder, owner of Glory Days Barbershop, was sworn in and seated on the board at last night’s meeting.

At the end of the meeting Rohweder gave his first public address, talking about giving back to the community and looking forward to working with his new colleagues.

“There are a lot of you whom I have never met, but look forward to and [I] have some old friends here as well who have continued to be great friends and set great examples,” said Rohweder. “[Fellow board member David Erickson is] someone that I very much respect and admire and love as a person.”

He added that he greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve his community in ways that he can, adding that he looked forward to helping make Knox County a place “worth staying in.”

As far as action taken by the board, they approved the wage compensation study bid from Paypoint HR to conduct an analysis of the county’s pay-scales to make sure all employees are paid fairly on all levels.

County Clerk Scott Erickson informed the board he had check on some of Paypoint’s references. Saying that the reference municipalities gave them “glowing reports” on how well and easy to work with they were.

After being approved this month in the Building Committee, the Knox County Board signed off on an energy efficiency analysis of the utility bills for county owned property.

Smart-Watt Incorporated claims to be able to help municipalities reduce energy bills through efficiency upgrades at no additional costs to taxpayers, instead utilizing operations budgets – such as utility and maintenance funds.

Also approved was a series of IT upgrades, starting with an over $144,000 Microsoft software upgrade for the county’s network.

Additionally the county approved a bid and bring back for computer upgrades to help streamline the software upgrades for the county.
