Regional Office of Education honors excellence in education

The Regional Office of Education 33 last week held a celebration to honor educators throughout the districts that they serve.The Excellence in Education Banquet recognized educators and support staff in Warren, Knox, Henderson and Mercer County districts who were retiring after 20 plus years of service, as well as school board members with over 12 years of service.

Several teachers and school support staff were given special recognition, who were nominated within their own districts.

Among the nominees, three were selected by the ROE to receive an “Excellence in Education” award.

The three winners were Tina Stier from Abingdon-Avon, Dave Greenlief from Monmouth-Roseville and Melinda Fry from United.

Stier is currently A-Town’s Director of Curriculum but has served as a band director then administrator for 26 years in A-Town and in the Avon district that preceded it.

Dave Greenlief is Monmouth-Roseville’s Director of Maintenance, whose nomination speaks of his uncompromising pride in district facilities as well as strong relationships he’s built with staff and students.

Melinda Fry was the final recipient is a language arts teacher at United Junior High.

Her nomination says that she’s the “inspiration and reason” many students come to school.

In addition to her teaching duties Fry advises the Kindess Club and Broadcast Club, with no pay yet she continually strengthens them.
