One arrested in car accident at World Buffet

A Galesburg woman was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of drugs after the vehicle she was driving tore through the front entryway of World Buffet late Thursday night.

Officers were dispatched to the Chinese restaurant at 1890 North Henderson Street at 11:07 in response to a fire alarm. While en route, officers were notified that Galesburg Fire and GHAS personnel were on scene.

According to police reports, officers arrived and observed a gray Buick Lacrosse inside the dining area of the business. Fire and medical personnel were tending to a female covered in blood.

The woman was identified as 24-year-old Savannah R. Peck. Fire personnel informed officers that Peck had admitted to using heroin earlier in the day but denied it had anything to do with the accident. She was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Officers gained access to the security system at World Buffet which showed the initial accident. Reports indicate that after the crash a female subject, covered in blood, could be seen exiting the area with a purse and then reappearing a few minutes later without the purse. She then was allegedly seen re-entering the vehicle and exiting with a cell phone. Then minutes later fire personnel can be seen entering the building.

A blood trail from the building was followed which led police to the rear side of Starbucks, across the parking lot from World Buffet. A black hand purse bearing a pink Playboy bunny logo was found under bushes behind the business.

It was noted in the police reports that the handbag and contents were covered in blood.

Inside the purse was identification for Peck, as was a clear plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance that was suspected to be methamphetamine.

At the hospital, Peck would allegedly admit to officers she had used heroin again, but denied it played an effect in the accident.

A biological specimen kit, and the suspected meth were sent off for testing.

Peck was transported to the Knox County Jail for processing after her evaluation at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
