Ground broken on Jupiter Machine Tool

A new manufacturer supported in part by an existing employer has officially broken ground in Galesburg, now that they’ve received financial backing, including hundreds of thousands in city loans.

Jupiter Machine Tool will be located not far from one of its backers in Galesburg’s Enterprise Zone — Pegasus Manufacturing.

“We’re excited about what Jupiter is going to be doing,” says Mayor John Pritchard. “They’re going to be selling CNC equipment across the United States and maybe the world. They’re also going to be servicing that equipment with state-of-the-art technology. For Galesburg, we’re happy to have them here, making the decision to be here.”

Pegasus and Jupiter co-owner — Ray Whitehead — says the new plant will be dealing with making equipment using waves of the future.

“We’ll be using direct and augmented reality,” says Whitehead. “Augmented reality will be employed our supply team, and our supply chains have agreed to give us all the intellectual property and drawings and models we need to make those projections possible. And, we’ll use virtual reality to train our employees, our customers, and so on.”

50-plus full-time employees are expected to be hired over the next three years, and Whitehead says an already-existing partnership between Pegasus and Galesburg High School could be expanded once Jupiter Machine Tool opens up.

While the city provided incentives for the project, Pritchard thanked Midwest Bank for providing the rest of the financing for the project.
