Arrest warrants issued for pair after 17-year old shot Thursday afternoon

Galesburg Police say that on Thursday afternoon a 17 year old male was the victim of a gunshot wound.Officers said as of Friday afternoon the victim was at OSF St. Francis in Peoria in critical but stable condition.

Police named two suspects today who face charges of aggravated battery/great bodily harm with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Warrants were issued for 21 year old Shawn O. Young and 20 year old Dwight D. Washington, both of Galesburg.

Young and Washington face the same charges but Washington’s bond was set at $250,000 and Young’s at $750,000.

A GPD release says that officers responded at 4:58 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of South Pearl and East Third Streets for a report of shots fired, but the victim had already been transported to Cottage Hospital by the time police arrived.

The juvenile was later transferred to St. Francis.

A previous version of this story stated that Washington (right in the picture) and Young (left) had been arrested. As of 4:27 p.m. Friday, only warrants had been issued but the two were not believed to be in custody.
