Great Galesburg Shake down to five

The Galesburg School District initiative designed to essentially teach students manners and communication skills, but in a competitive environment, is down to its final hours for this year.

There are five students remaining in the “Great Galesbug Shake” after last week’s competitions. They are JaCara Kelley, Natalie Nelson, Lilyan McNally, Mackenzie Musser, and Olivia Owen. They were selected after a dinner last week where they were evaluated by the local leaders they ate and conversed with.

The five left Friday on a road trip to New York City, similar to trips other finalists have taken in previous years. Monday, the group — among other things — met with Galesburg native John Simkins, who works in Manhattan with American Express.

The students will return before Wednesday night, when the winner will be announced during a ceremony at 5:30 at the Galesburg High School Library.

Galesburg’s Evening News will broadcast live from that announcement Wednesday during the 5pm hour on WGIL, WGIL.com, and WGIL on the TuneIn Radio App.
