Rockford man facing felony theft charge

A Rockford man is facing felony theft charges following a Wednesday arrest.

Officers were dispatched to Casey’s General Store on West Main Street in reference to a disturbance at around 6 p.m.

Employees at Casey’s told officers that a white male in a green hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans was asking customers for money, was being disruptive, and cursing at employees.

Police located the individual, later identified as 47-year-old Kurtis L. Moen of Rockford, walking north on West Street carrying a red 5-gallon gasoline canister.

According to reports, officers attempted to contact him, but he took off running and threw the gas can in the back of a truck.

Once he was apprehended officers would discover that the gas can was taken from the back of a commercial truck. It was identified by an individual who said Moen had asked him for money.

At the time a police report was filed Moen was charged with a Class 2 Felony of theft from a motor vehicle, but court records indicate Moen was formally charged with a Class 4 Felony of theft.
