Galesburg Fire Chief Tom Simkins says a fatal collision between a pickup truck and a train occurred this afternoon at a rail crossing on the 600 block of S. Linwood Rd.Simkins says the pickup was believed to have drove across the tracks northbound at a high rate of speed and was hit by an east bound train.
The name of the deceased won’t be released at this time pending notification of family.
Simkins says the truck was on fire when emergency crews responded.
The train had one car derail but was pulled along to the tracks under the Bickerdyke Bridge where crews were working to put it back on.
The crossing on S. Linwood is expected to remain closed for a period of time Tuesday.
