Galesburg Public Library hires new director

The Galesburg Public Library has hired a new director after he was approved by the library’s Board of Trustees unanimously.J. Zachary Holt has been hired and will start in the role effective May 7.

Holt replaces Harriet Zipfel who retired in October after serving in the post for six years.

Holt started his library career at the Towanda District Library and also has worked in public libraries in Chatsworth and Lexington.

For the last three years he’s been director of the Forrest Public District Library in Forrest, Illinois.

He holds a bachelor’s from Illinois College in English literature, and a Master’s in Library and Information Science from Dominican University.

Holt says he looks to “build on the foundations of quality service and programming” set by current staff and stakeholders at the GPL.

Board President Laurie Muelder says that they welcome Holt’s “enthusiam, knowledge, and vision.”

Members of the community are invited to meet the new director over coffee and cake on Monday May 7, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the library lobby.
