Knox Health Department holding first ever Health Fair today

It may be hard to believe but this is the 25th anniversary of the Knox County Health Department.

Also unbelievably they’ve never held a health fair until today.

Public Health Director Erin Olson says the anniversary year gives them a chance to re-brand and reintroduce their services to the public.

Today from noon to 3 p.m. at the Health Center at 1361 W. Fremont St. all residents are invited to come by and look around the health center.

Olson says that visitors will be shown the range of services that are performed within the center’s walls.

“We just want you to come… we’re proud of our building and we’re proud of what we’ve done for the last 25 years,” she told WGIL. “We just want people to come in, even stop by for five minutes and let us show you around.”

In addition to the tours, residents will also be able to learn about a number of agencies and organizations that regularly partner with the health department.

Additionally they will have free blood pressure screenings and several different organizations and agencies on hand that are common partners with the Health Department.

The Galesburg Police Department will be there helping parents and guardians with car seat safety checks.

Some other agencies that will be there include the YMCA, U of I Extension, OSF and Cottage to name a few.

“We all work together very well,” said Olson. “Helping to serve the people of Knox County and getting them the services that they need, so them coming out is just showing… how well we work together.”

She says their employees, some of which have been there for two decades take pride in the services they render to Knox County residents.

And what would a celebration be without food? Hy-Vee will be serving hot dogs, fruit, chips and water.
