Habitat for Humanity of Knox County will have a ground-breaking for the non-profit’s 54th home in Knox County Saturday. “It’ll be at 1:00 down on Ecklund Court which is off South Chambers Street in Galesburg,” Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Knox County, Jordan Knight. “It’ll happen rain or shine. (There’ll be) a short and symbolic service. Anybody and everybody is welcome to come join us – it’ll be a 20-30 minute service. You can partake – grab a shovel, turn over some sod. (You’ll) really get a vision of what is to come.”

Opening night for The Prairie Players’ “Inherit the Wind” is Friday, April 6th at 7:30 pm. “Inherit the Wind” is a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial, which resulted in John T. Scopes’ conviction for teaching Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution to a high school science class, contrary to a Tennessee state law. Larry Diemer, plays Henry Drummond in the play – the defense attorney based on real-life attorney Clarence Darrow who defended John T. Scopes in the trial. “When the production planning committee was meeting last year, (they) thought maybe it’s time to do this play again,” Diemer said. “It’s a battle for the education system. It’s sort of, the creationism. Should religious groups have the power to say what goes on in the schools.” You can catch “Inherit the Wind” April 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th at 7:30 pm – and again Sunday, April 8th and 15th at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for students and tickets can be bought at the Prairie Players website or call 343-7728.
