Sandburg hosts Career Expo to introduce job seekers to employers

Job seekers should take notice of an event today at Carl Sandburg College.

They’ll hold their 27th Annual Career Expo in the school’s gym today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 68 businesses will be on hand to tell you about what their company does and possibly on a track to getting hired.

Tracy Engstrom, Sandburg’s Coordinator of Career Development says there should be a “little something for everybody.”

Just a few businesses that will be represented include Seminary Village, Mary Kay, Northwestern Mutual, Gates and Galesburg Broadcasting.

Newer employers are Fusion Tech, Pink Zebra, Straight Forward and several staffing agencies.

Engstrom tells WGIL that it’s a great place to explore a range of careers but some that attend find themselves on a fast track, “we always recommend that people bring up professional resumes with them, that they’re dressing professionally, that they really prepared to make a strong first impression with these employers. That truly is a great way for people to start networking with prospective employers and to make that strong positive impression.”

She says that at times job seekers can get hired on the spot, so it’s important to make a good first impression, “I’ve seen people actually get interviewed on the spot. Sometimes they get hired on the spot, depending on what the employers are looking for.” said Engstrom. “So it truly is a good way to not only explore career fields but truly have the interview right then and there.”

Engstrom recommends attending bring a resume, wear professional attire and are ready to make a strong impression on employers.
