More Galesburg intersections to see yellow turn lights

Soon the City of Galesburg is expected to have flashing yellow turn lights on all intersections where the lights have a turn phase. That would mean nine more blinking yellow lights including at the intersections of Seminary and Fremont as well as Main and Farnham.

The Galesburg City Council has on their consent agenda for their meeting upcoming on Monday, a joint funding agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

IDOT is funding 90 percent of the estimated $420,000 cost of the project.

They granted Galesburg a similar 10 percent funding of the project in December 2016 but at that time the project was only estimated at $330,000.

This all comes several years after IDOT upgraded all the traffic lights at intersections along state routes in town.

Council documents say there are sufficient funds in the city’s Motor Fuel Tax fund to cover their $47,000 share of the project.
