Upcoming workshop aims to help start your own business

You’ve decided to start a business of your own – so what’s the first thing you do? According to Kyle Kelley – Client Manager with the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development – most people don’t know. KCAP has hosted several “How to Start Your Business” workshops in the past, but due to demand, will begin holding quarterly workshops for local entrepreneurs. A lot of the things that KCAP helps startups accomplish like, coaching sessions, site planning, finding financing, and connecting you with resources, will be covered during the workshop. Kelley tells WGIL the workshop will be ran by Jim Boyd with the Small Business Development Center at WIU. “We try and do the best that we can to help the customer not only get to market as fast as possible, but we want to make sure they get all of the regulatory issues (and) things like that covered before they start spending money on anything…” Kelley said. “…or going and spending money on consultants or things like that….so we can help navigate those waters to at least mitigate a lot of their costs up front.” Even those that may sell a product or service online and want to go into retail, or a current business owners wishing to expand are encouraged to attend. The “How to Start Your Business Workshop” will be held Wednesday night from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the KCAP offices – 200 East Main Street suite 200 in Downtown Galesburg – the 2nd floor of the YMCA building.
