GPD investigating thefts from Saturday

The Galesburg Police Department is investigating two thefts that took place this weekend.

Responding to a call for a residential burglary, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1000-block of East Losey Street shortly before 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

Residents told police they arrived home around 5:00 to find the front door had been kicked in, knocking the door off it’s hinges and breaking pieces of the door off.

Officers were given a tour of the home where several items were allegedly taken sometime between 10:30 the night before and when the residents arrived back home.

Items taken included two computers, digital camera, iPad, jewelry, a 55″ 4K television, gaming consoles, and several home renovation materials including: a vanity, carpet remnants and packs of shutters.

Police reports indicate that the value of the property taken was around $12,909.

Later that day, officers would respond to the 300-block of Locust where the victim of the theft told officers he saw a male in a black shirt and jeans take off running away from his truck.

He told officers the truck had been parked in his driveway and he was in the back yard smoking when he saw the man run away.

According to police reports, nearly five dollars in loose change was taken as well as prescription Hydrocodone pills.

Hydrocodone – sometimes branded as Vicodin – is a narcotic analgesic, or pain medicine and interacts with the central nervous system to relieve pain

It is also a Schedule II Controlled Substance and thus requires a prescription to obtain.

Reports indicate that officers verified that the pills were in fact prescribed to the victim.

No arrests were made in either case.
