Yates City solar project scrapped following “contentious” open house

A solar farm project that was to go up on farm land outside of Yates City has been taken off the table.

Trajectory Energy Partners had announced they were installing a solar energy project in a 22-acre plot of land outside of Yates City and holding an open meeting for residents.

The solar farm would be the first community solar energy installation in Knox County prior to a February 19th open house.

In the Tuesday night meeting of the Knox County Board, board member and Assessor and Zoning Committee chair John Hunigan told the board that the project had been called off following a meeting at the Yates City Community Center.

Speaking about the meeting, Hunigan said “Lets just say that the residents weren’t really excited about and became rather contentious.”

Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development President Ken Springer tells WGIL that “after hearing concerns from the neighbors at the open house on Monday the 19th, the developer of the project, Trajectory Energy Partners, and the landowners involved had mutually decided not to bring the project forward through the approvals process.”

Springer added that, “The Knox County Partnership is disappointed in the decision to not move this project forward, but we still believe that there are opportunities in alternative energy development, and we’re going to continue to pursue opportunities for an alternative energy development for Knox County.”
