Man makes plea deal, sees new charges in separate case

A man who was facing home invasion charges took a plea deal Tuesday, all while facing new charges stemming from an incident at the Knox County Jail.

25-year-old Clevon Dortch Jr. had been arrested in October following an shots fired call in the location of North Broad Street.

Dortch and a second individual, 24-year-old Austin J.M. Baker, were arrested in that incident.

According to court records, Dortch was in Knox County Circuit Court with Judge Scott Shipplett where he took a plea deal, however his day in court wasn’t over.

Dortch is being charged with a Class 1 Felony of being in possession of contraband in a penal institution.

He made a video appearance with Judge James Standard where public defender David M.Hansen was appointed to represent him.

Dortch’s bail had been set at $100,000.

According to the Register Mail, Dortch allegedly was charged with being in possession of a shank at the Knox County Jail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 6th.
