Knoxville School District goes on soft lock down following threatening note discovery

The Knoxville School District has gone on a soft lock down as a result of a threatening note being found at the high school this morning.

Superintendent Steve Wilder tells WGIL that school administration was notified, the threat was investigated with law enforcement, and the threat was deemed not credible.

Regardless of the credibility, Wilder says the high school will be on soft lock down for the remainder of the day and there will be an increased police presence.

“We have implemented a soft lock down procedure throughout the district for the remainder of the day,” Wilder says. “That means students are allowed to move inside the building, but visitors are not allowed inside the building.”

Wilder says the district will continue working with law enforcement regarding the safety of students and faculty for school the remainder of the week.

As far as the regional basketball tournament being played at Knoxville, Wilder says his main concern is making sure that everyone is safe during the school days before he turns his attention to afternoon and evening events.
