Delino’s Italian Deli and Bakery headed downtown

Delino’s Italian Deli and Bakery has been in existence for nearly 16 years, as a lunchtime favorite for many but also somewhat of a hidden secret.

Jim and Beth Register have owned Delino’s Italian Deli and Bakery for less a year but they’ll soon move it to the location of another favorite Galesburg lunch spot that is quitting business.

Delino’s will move to the store front that Q’s Cafe operates out of at 319 E. Main St.

Walt and Annette McAllister announced last month that they would close Q’s at the end of February when their lease expires.

Delino’s lease for their location inside Galesburg Cottage Hospital is up at the end of March according to Jim Register and he and his wife saw an opportunity to gain more exposure by moving to downtown.

Because Q’s and Delino’s are similar breeds of restaurant Jim says getting the space ready shouldn’t be too intensive. “We’ll have to arrange some stuff and… once they get their stuff out we’ll have to look around and see in more detail what we’ll have to do. But nothing complicated, I don’t think.”

Jim and Beth bought the business in April of 2017 after Craig and JoAnn Andrews ran it for 15 years out of Cottage.

The Registers never really changed the menu when they bought from the Andrews and Jim says he doesn’t expect any menu changes going forward.

Jim tells WGIL that with the move he’s hoping that Delino’s can gain some more exposure, “There’s a lot of people in Galesburg that don’t know about Delino’s. It’s been established since 2002, so obviously that’s 16 years coming up in May. There’s still people out there you talk to and they say ‘well I didn’t know you existed.’ That’s why it’s good for us to get downtown so there’s more exposure and more foot traffic.”
