City accepting nominations to award adult who give extra effort for youth

The City of Galesburg is accepting nominations from the community for a long standing award that recognizes adult community members who make a difference in the lives of local youth.

The Annual Adult Service to Youth Award is given to one or sometimes two individuals who have given an “extra effort” in serving Galesburg Youth through their time and efforts.

Some examples of that extra effort according to the city could include working in a volunteer role assisting with youth activities or helping with basic needs like through a coat or shoe drive.

The winner will be chosen by the Galesburg Youth Commission from the pool of nominations that are submitted.

Ultimately the winner will be invited to be recognized at a City Council meeting in the spring and will receive an official proclamation from Mayor John Pritchard.

Recent recipients include Linda Lewis, Cindy Barshinger and Carlos Duncan.
