Galesburg lands hosting duties for arts conference

Galesburg has been chosen as the host city for a broad ranging arts conference this October.The One State Together in the Arts Conference will make use of several Galesburg locations that are fused to local art and culture.

More than two dozen stakeholders are said to have worked on the proposal to bring the conference including the Galesburg Civic Art Center, Discovery Depot, Knox and Carl Sandburg Colleges as well as the Galesburg Community Foundation.

Galesburg Tourism Director Michelle Kim says that exhibits, events and tours will be held all over town.

The conference will visit locations like Fleming Fieldhouse and the Whitcomb Art Building on Knox’s campus, The Orphuem Theatre, and the Blick Art Materials Distribution Center to name a few.

This bi-annual event is organized by the Illinois Arts Council Agency and Arts Alliance Illinois.

Alliance Executive Director Claire Rice says they were impressed by Galesburg’s commitment to the event.

She says the conference will take attendees into the “heart” of the Galesburg art community in “imaginative and innovative ways.”
