Illinois Sheriff’s Association scholarships awarding $500 in Knox County.

For nearly 40 years, the Illinois Sheriff’s Association has awarded scholarships around the state to Illinois students wishing to pursue higher education. College scholarship applications are available beginning in January each year and winners are announced in May. The scholarship is for the 2018-2019 academic year and is applied to tuition, books, and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the state of Illinois. Applicants must be a permanent Illinois resident, and the scholarship excludes summer learning sessions. Throughout the state, a total of $53,500 in scholarships will be awarded through the ISA. Knox County Sheriff David Clague will be awarding a scholarship worth $500. The application includes a questionnaire where applicants explain their educational and professional goals and objectives, academic honors and awards, community service activities, and an essay of 350 words or less. This year’s essay is: “How is law enforcement perceived in your area?” and “What in you opinion is the best way to improve law enforcement relations within your community?” Applications and more information is available at the Knox County Sheriff’s Department or they can be found online the Knox County Sheriff website or at the Illinois Sheriffs Association website. The deadline to submit the application is March 15th.
