Art in the park fest returns this summer as a part of Railroad Days

Art is coming back to the park this summer.

After a two year hiatus the Galesburg Civic Art Center has announced the long time arts festival in Standish Park will continue.

While it was known as Art in the Park, it’s returning with a new name, the Standish Arts and Crafts Market and will run in conjunction with Galesburg Railroad Days.

The market is planned for Saturday June 23, although there is the option for the festival to continue into Sunday.

Civic Art Center Executive Director Tuesday Cetin said in 2016 that Art in the Park was cancelled due to declining participation. She said in its prime it could pull in close to 70 artists, but before its shuttering was closer to 40.

Cetin also says they’re planning trolley rides to run to and from the park. Artists looking to participate can register for $40 if they do so by March 1. Artists will get to keep 100 percent of what they sell.

Attendees can expect artist and crafter demonstrations, booths, food, live music and family art activities. The Art Center is also promising a trolley that will run to and from the park.

Typically Art in the Park was held in September, coinciding with another annual Galesburg staple, the Stearman Fly-In.
