Galesburg alderman approve developing masterplan for Logistics Park

Economic development leaders say they think they’ve found a way to put Galesburg’s Logistics Park to good use and Galesburg City Council last night took the first step toward realizing that use.

Alderman approved $15,500 to contract ISG in developing a masterplan for the park to serve as a transload/warehouse facility.

City Manager Todd Thompson says after the plan is finished, it will aid in marketing the park and finding funding opportunities, “We believe there is a real potential to develop this site for this use, but in order to move to the next stage of soliciting interest we need to develop a more definitive master plan and costs related to utilities and things of that nature.”

Ken Springer with the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development says that it is KCAP’s view this is a “wise” investment for the community to make, “Having that park be rail served adds considerably to the value of the land and gives us an important marketing piece to find users for that property, and of course this study would really look at serving the park from a rail industry perspective.”

Springer adds that there have been a handful of leads in Knox County that have been interested in transloading in the last several year.

Director of Planning and Public Works Wayne Carl says the report should be finished by ISG in May.
