Monmouth Fire Department extinguishes Tuesday morning house fire

The Monmouth Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning in the Maple City.

Two fire engines responded to a residence in the 200 block of South C Street where firefighters found smoke bellowing from the second.

The incident commander requested an additional alarm as firefighters entered the front door of the residence with hose lines and moved to second floor where they found fire in an upstairs bathroom.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flame and checked for any additional extension.

The family had evacuated the home prior to the arrival of the fire department, and no injuries were reported. Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service responded to the scene were standing by.

Firefighters cleared the scene by 5:11 a.m.. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
