Video appearance for Galesburg man arrested on drug related FTA warrants

A Galesburg man was arrested over the weekend for outstanding warrants and drug possession made a video appearance in Knox County Circuit Court on Monday.

29-year-old Jose C. Lemus had his detention hearing with Judge Rodney G. Clark where no additional bail was set.

On Sunday Galesburg police officers received a tip that Lemus was located in a residence in the 200 block of W. First Street. Officers responded to that location.

Around noon they conducted a search where – according to police reports – Lemus was found hiding under some blankets in a basement laundry room.

He would be apprehended, and a search of the area turned up 1.9 grams of a white powdery substance – later identified as cocaine.

He is being charged with a Class 4 Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 20th.

In 2017, Lemus was charged with six felony drug charges: Class 1 Felony of Meth Delivery Under 15 Grams, Class 2 Felony of Heroin Possession Under 100 Grams, a Class 3 Felony of Possession of Meth Under 15 Grams, and three counts of a Class 4 Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Additionally, Lemus had been charged with a Class 4 Mob Action Felony.

Bail had been set at $100,000 in the 2017 cases, but court records indicate it was lowered to $50,000. A warrant was issued when Lemus did not show up for his October court date.
