More homes sold in Galesburg than previous year

23 more real estate units were sold in Knox, Warren and Henderson counties in 2017 than 2016.

Homes were selling at about 90 percent of their list price in both years.

Sales for Galesburg specifically were up 20 units over the previous year with 355 being sold.

Those are numbers based on a rolling 12 month average ending December of last year. In those 12 months there were 362 closed sales for detached family homes and and 5 attached homes.

The media sales price for a detached family home in Galesburg finished 2017 with the highest price dating back at least a decade at about $80,000. An attached family home went for a median price of $130,000.

That’s almost $10,000 more than the median sales price for Galesburg homes in 2016 with only four sales being closed.

Tim Eagle, President of the West Central chapter of Capital Area Realtors says that increased home sales give a strong economic “ripple” through the region.

He says not only do real estate agents benefit but so do “appraisers, surveyors, credit bureaus, lenders, home improvement companies, home furnishing stores, appliance stores and the like,”

Galesburg homes were also selling for a little less than the average Capital Area Real Estate’s West Central Region with Galesburg detached homes selling for an average $79,000 last year while the region averaged $97,000.

The West Central Region is comprised of Knox, Warren and Henderson counties as well as surrounding areas.
