Galesburg woman arrested on felony retail theft

A 33-year-old Galesburg woman was arrested late Thursday night for retail theft.

According to police reports, officers responded to Walmart at 659 Knox Square Dr. for the the theft call. They were informed that a woman – who had been stopped by management for the theft – had just left the store wearing a blue shirt and pink pants.

The woman, later identified as Jennier A. Cavett,  in question was located near Buffalo Wild Wings, and officers attempted to apprehend her regarding the accusation.

She allegedly resisted officers and was handcuffed and taken back to Walmart. Management informed officers that they had been watching Cavett as she tried to push a cart of merchandise valued at over $1,500 out of the building without paying for it.

She was stopped, and told to wait for police to arrive. She then abandoned the cart and left the building at that time. Police reports note that her purse and identification was left behind in the shopping cart as well.

She was charged with a Class 3 Felony of Retail Theft over $300, and a Class A Misdemeanor of Resisting a Police Officer.
