County Board holding first meeting in Galesburg City Council Chambers

Tonight the Knox County Board will hold discussion on bid documentation for undergoing a compensation analysis and study for non-union county staff members.

In December, the Finance Committee held a special meeting on creating a pay-scale for each position within the county – however they soon discovered that the task was beyond their means and understanding.

Earlier this month, the committee tasked County Clerk Scott Erickson to draft language for bid documents so that a third party firm could conduct an analysis on county positions, job requirements, education needs and so on.

The board will also consider the approval of security lock upgrades at the Mary Davis Home, and installing security cameras on the Courthouse exterior.

At the November Building Committee meeting, Board President Pam Davidson had asked if it were possible to have cameras installed on the exterior. Around then the courthouse had been vandalized, with a rock being thrown through the treasurer’s office window.

The cost of installation would be $26,330 and encompass the installation of cameras on the building, in the parking lot, and a closed-circuit video server.

Additionally the board will approve payment to Otto Baum for exterior work to the courthouse for a total of $3,079.08 .

The board could approve a rate increase for private rooms at the Knox County Nursing Home.

Board documents indicate that currently rooms in Wings 2, 3, and 4 cost $168, and wing 1 costs $178. Should the increase be approved, prices will go up by $5.

Also on the agenda is the consideration for approving an engineering agreement with Hutchinson Engineering to provide services in the replacement of a bridge located half a mile west of Altona on County Highway 4. According to a letter in the board packet, the bridge is in need of replacement as “the bottom portion of the channel beams have significant cracking and exposed reinforcement bards that are corroding.”

The engineering services agreement shall not exceed $122,500

Tonight will be the first meeting in the Galesburg City Council Chambers. A close session precedes the 6:00 p.m. meeting.
