Process to find the next president at Carl Sandburg College has begun

The Board of Trustees for Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg began the process of finding it’s next president.

The college’s current president, Dr. Lori Sundberg has accepted a position at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa and will be leaving Sandburg in June. Thursday the board approved the motion to hire Dr. Larry Ebbers as a consultant to find the next president. With a very extensive list of accomplishments and recognitions, most recently Ebbers in 2014 received the American Association of Community Colleges National Leadership Award. The search for a president will also include an interview team made up of Board of Trustees Chairperson Lee Johnson and Student Trustee Donyae Payton among others.  In a news release, Johnson says the process “incorporates 15 college employees in the preliminary process” and they are “very excited to be working with Dr. Ebbers to get the best person we can get.” Six to eight interviews will be conducted by the end of March with three to five finalists invited to visit Sandburg in April. The April visit will include an interview and a live public forum. The Board of Trustees hopes to have a new president decision in place by the May 24th meeting. A website page has been created to provide information and details on the search. Sandburg employees and community members are asked – via a survey – what characteristics they think the president should possess. The college’s online survey can be found at here.
