Election office urging voter registration ahead of March primaries

The Galesburg Election Office are urging residents to make sure their voter registration is up to date.

Residents who have moved, changed their name or will turn 18 before the general election should complete their registration before Feb. 20.

Past this deadline, you can still be grace registered and vote but only at the Election Office in Galesburg City Hall. If you are registered before this date you just go to your polling place on Election Day.

During 2016’s election, Director of the Galesburg Board of Election Lisa Watson said that early voting is steadily trending upwards in terms of voters that take advantage.

Races to be decided by March’s primaries in Illinois include Norine Hammond and Joshua Griffith for the 93rd District General Assembly Republican nomination.

Also there are gubernatorial primaries on both sides of the aisle in the race for Illinois Governor, with Democrats also having several candidates to choose from for Attorney General.

Early voting for the March primary starts two weeks from Thursday on Feb. 8 and runs until the day before the election.
