Knox County Board to look for proposals for compensation analysis study

Starting off the new year, the Knox County Finance Committee continued discussion on creating a pay-scale for non-exempt, or non-union, employees of the county.

In a previous meeting, the committee had looked at information from Whiteside County regarding positions, education requirements, and experience as well as pay, but still the matter seemed far and above the committee’s expertise.

Knox County Treasurer Robin Davis told the committee that Whiteside County had bid out the work to a third party agency.

That proposal was forwarded to Davis, who said that her and County Clerk Scott Erickson could use it as a template for putting together the counties own proposal for the same work.

Board members indicated they were on board with the idea, and gave Davis the green-light to come up with a proposal requesting bids, which she said her and Erickson would put together and include in the January meeting’s packet for the Knox County Board.

Later in the meeting, some issues with emergency-installed heating units at the courthouse have caused additional an issue with the county’s I.T. department.

County Clerk Scott Erickson detailed some of the heating issues that had sprung up when the courthouse’s heating units failed a few weeks back.

“Through the building committee the emergency actions that were taken.. to help address the heating issues at the courthouse…” Erickson said.  “…and in the process of doing these installations… there have been some logistical anomalies.”

Erickson said that because of the new units installed, and ducts that have been run through the I.T. department – head space in the basement office has been dramatically reduced and not suitable for a work space.

Using himself as a template, the Erickson (5’11”) said that he barely cleared the duct work in the office space.

Space is limited, but the committee discussed finding an interim location for the I.T. Department until a more suitable space could be created.

Board member Bob Bondi said that they would take up the item in the I.T. meeting and bring an idea to the Building Committee meeting next month.

Following an executive session last night the committee approved to bid out the county’s labor attorney services.

Committee chair Brian Friedrich says that in years past they hadn’t bid out just because, but this time around they were to get the best for the constituents.
