A Galesburg man arrested over the weekend on possession of meth, and meth manufacturing materials made his first appearance in Knox County Circuit Court Wednesday morning.
33-year old Steven Strickland was still in custody when he went before Judge Raymond Cavanaugh – along side Public Defender Matthew Thor and Assistant State’s Attorney Sabrina Stroops.
According to court records, Cavanaugh set bond at $25,000 for Strickland – with only ten percent required to get out of jail – and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for January 23rd.
According to online court records, he is being formally charged with a Class 2 Felony of Possession of Meth Manufacturing Materials, and a Class 3 Felony of Possession of Meth under five grams.
If convicted of both charges, Strickland could see a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
Strickland was arrested Saturday morning on North Chambers Street – allegedly while in possession of a pouch containing hypodermic syringes, metal spoons, and methamphetamine.
A backpack was found in the vehicle he was seen driving by Galesburg Police officers.
Inside was the makings of a mobile meth lab. At the time of his detainment, he denied it belonged to him.
