205 tables Cottage service contract over language vagueness

A service contract between District 205 and Cottage Rehab was tabled at last night’s School Board meeting over some implied vague language in the contract.

The service contract would see Cottage Rehab supply an athletic trainer to the district to assist with any injuries student athletes receive in practice or the games.

The contract had been approved year-to-year, but a change would see the length of the agreement extended for five years.

During the Monday night meeting, board member Wayne Statham brought up an issue he had with the contract, and the lack of descriptive language regarding services provided by Cottage Rehab.

Athletic Director Jeff Flater did tell the board that the there were agreed upon details already in the contract, saying that the district sends Cottage specific dates that an athletic trainer is needed on site for games or practices.

The item was tabled, along with an advertising contract with Cottage Rehab, until new, more descriptive language was drafted.

Little discussion took place regard videotaping or streaming board meetings or substitution pay increases.

Superintendent John Asplund informed the board there was little to update the board on regarding either item, except that the district had purchased a new camera to experiment with.

One discussion item that was brought up to the board was the boundary study – with Asplund informing the board of something he wanted to see for the district, asking if any members of the board objected to the notion of filling Steele and Silas Willard to capacity as those schools had air conditioning.

No board members objected, but Statham did seek clarification on what Asplund meant by capacity – referring to the contract with the teacher’s union on maximum class sizes.

The board spent a majority of their discussion reviewing different sections of the current Press Policy, with many changes being suggested.

Some discussion took place regarding the results of the community engagement meetings from last year, with Asplund presenting the board with a brief overview of the results.
