205 to consider service agreement with Cottage, discuss substitute pay increase

The District 205 Board of Education meets Monday night for the first meeting of the new year, and much of the same issues carried over from 2017 will be on the agenda.

The board could approved a five-year professional service agreement with Cottage Rehab for athletic training services.

The agreement would see 205 compensating Cottage for providing sports medicine care to students who may get injured during their time playing for the district.

Online board documents indicate that compensation comes in the form of $10,000 paid through the ten months of the year that school is in session, with a maximum 500 hours provided. Any excess hours will be billed to the district at $30 an hour.

The board will also consider the approval of a Non Fraternization Policy, meant to curb any appearance of bias from spouses who work within the district in a supervisory position over their significant other.

The board will also continue discussing issues carried over from the previous year.

Pay increases for substitute teachers has been on the agenda for a few months now, as the district looks to increase the pool of available subs.

These pay increases, and incentives for subs who continue to accept jobs for district schools were talked about previously.

Currently the district pays substitutes $85 a day, while nearby Monmouth-Roseville pays out $90, and Peoria’s daily rate is $130.

Additionally the district will discuss videotaping or streaming board meetings at the start of the new year.

This topic has been on the table since mid-summer, and currently the district records meetings on a webcam and uploads them to a Youtube channel at the conclusion of the meetings.
