Galesburg City Council to vote on monthly water billing tonight

Galesburg City Council look to make their decision tonight on whether the city will change to monthly billing for water and refuse.

Council documents say that the council already directed administration to move towards monthly billing during the budgeting process.

Still, it’s unclear what changes there will be in how the alderman vote.

Members Allen, Dennis, Bastian and Fleming were opposed when the item came up in March and when the billing change was on first reading none of the four were clearly in support.

Council could also approve a bid to place security cameras on nine Galesburg Transit vehicles.

The bid to either be approved or rejected is for about $47 thousand, from GSI Systems to install equipment that track activity on the bus as well as driving pattern documentation.

Administration felt that GSI had the most “robust” programming and their staff was more familiar with their equipment.

The city will be reimbursed 100 percent for the equipment through the Illinois Job Now grant.
