Man charged with drug possession following traffic stop in Galesburg

A Galesburg man has been charged with drug possession following a traffic stop that occurred early Monday morning.

At around 12:43 officers pulled over a silver Honda Odyssey on E. Grove Street when officers recognized the driver as an individual having a suspended license out of Iowa.

36-year-old Ryan J. Stark was arrested by Galesburg Police. He allegedly admitted to officers to having some cannabis in the vehicle.

According to police reports, officers found loose marijuana in the car – giving them cause for conducting a search to which they found pills and a baggie of methamphetamine.

He denied knowing the meth was in the car – admitting that if he had known he would have swallowed it.

After being taken to the Public Safety Building, Stark allegedly admitted to swallowing less than a gram of meth – prompting officers to take him to Cottage Hospital for 24-hours of observation.

He was charged with possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, operating an uninsured vehicle, and driving while license was suspended.
