Ameren Illinois rates to decrease for fifth time since 2011

For the second consecutive year, residential customers of Ameren Illinois will see the benefits of a decrease in their electricity bills.

Under Ameren’s new plan, which was approved last week, customers will see a savings of around a $1-70 a month on their electric bill beginning at the start of 2018.

The announcement made last Wednesday, marks the fifth overall rate decrease since the landmark 2011 Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act – or Smart Grid Bill – passed.

Chairman and President of Ameren Illinois Richard J. Mark says in a press release that “We made a commitment to our customers and state regulators to build a stronger and more reliable electric distribution system and keep rate stable.”

He adds that “The plan approved today demonstrates the prudent cost management and solid project execution can help our customers save.”

Last year, rates were lowered by $1.37.
