Knoxville City Council keeps tax levy even with last year

The Knoxville City Council agreed on a flat tax levy – keeping it the same as last year at last’s nights meeting.
With a projected increase in Equalized Assessed Value of properties, the council was hopeful expenditures for the upcoming year were on track with 2016.

The council also got an update on the handicap ramp replacement for the First Presbyterian Church in Knoxville.

It was decided that the ramp will need removed and moved north – up the street.

Also, in a meeting that doesn’t usually see many members of the public spectating, council members heard a presentation from local business owner Eric Mayfield.

Wishing to win bids on city projects, Mayfield’s stump-grinding business was shown support last night by over half a dozen neighbors, friends, and former customers of Mayfield’s.

The council will also be reviewing their newly-agreed-upon city liability insurance through the Illinois Municipal League.

Alderman displayed their disappointment in the new agreement after learning the Knoxville Auxiliary Police may have to disband without coverage.

Council also heard from residents of Lewis Lane – off Ann Street in Knoxville – desiring a street light installed at the end of the dead end street.

The council assured attendees they will table the discussion after more research was done.
