Abingdon’s Joshua L. Griffith a retired Sergeant First Class in the Army, and former youth minister announced his candidacy for State Representative of the 93rd House District on Thursday. He will run as a Republican and primary against incumbent 93rd Representative Norine Hammond of Macomb for her seat. When asked what would make him a good candidate, Griffith tells WGIL that he is a people person and loves to serve people
“I love hearing their problems,” explains Griffith, “and helping them, you know, I’m a problem solver. With all my years in education I value what the education system has and I believe I can bring something to the table to make our school systems better.”
Griffith says that he chose to run against Hammond because of her approval of the 32-percent tax increase associated with the passing of the state budget. Democrat John Curtis, who previously lost an election bid to Hammond, has announced his intention to also run again.
