New and old business at Monday night’s Knoxville City Council

A regular council meeting was held Monday for the Knoxville City Council covering a range of topics and issues.

The council approved the appropriations to the 2018 fiscal year making no changes from the the 2017 appropriations.

In other old business, the council decided on a new water department internet provider, and distinguished which city streets needed and had weight limits for semi trucks for local deliveries.

Under new business, the council accepted the resignation of police officer Jeremy Moore – who has accepted a position with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Pending the appropriate tests and physicals the police department will then be bringing on Emily Ordaz as a new officer.

The Knoxville Library had put in a budget request for $10,000 – an annual request, which the Council was confident in approving at a future meeting.

Mayor Dennis Maurer also announced that the reality show Fireball Run has expressed interest in coming to Knoxville to do some filming at historic places. The show can be found on Amazon Prime, and contestants are expected to be in the city on September 26th.

The Council was also presented with new city employee health care plan options. The current city plan ends on September 1st. The new plan looks to be at least a 15-22% increase from the previous year, and will be established at the next scheduled meeting.

There will also be an Action Team Meeting tonight in regards to obtaining grants for sidewalk installation and repair throughout the city. The meeting will be held tonight at 6:00pm at First Midwest Bank.
