Underpass construction hardly delayed by impasse

Crews working on the East Main Street Underpass didn’t lose much time with road construction projects around the state halting for the first few days of July.
Projects were shutdown when the state didn’t have a budget on July 1, the start of the fiscal year.

But now that lawmakers have approved their first full spending plan in two years the Underpass construction is back on and they only missed two days.

Carl says there still a little bit ahead of schedule and they’ll install bridges for the remaining two tracks tomorrow.

This will be another 48-hour window of non-stop work beginning at 10 p.m. for contractors to install bridges on the middle track and another 16 hours for the easterly track.

“By the end of the week he should have all the bridges in for the three tracks and then it’ll be up to roadway contractor to dig out underneath to put the road in,” Carl says.

There will be one track operating for the duration of the work window, the westerly one that new bridges have already been installed on.
