Possible damaging winds coming to Galesburg after midnight

The National Weather Service is warning of severe storms late this evening with a possibility for damaging winds.

Chris Geelhart with the National Weather Service says that Galesburg’s potential storms are categorized as slight for the moment.

That means storms will likely be short lived but isolated intense storms are possible. The worse should come late tonight but we’re not out of the woods Thursday either.

Northwest of Galesburg, particularly Rock Island and Mercer counties should be even more cautious tonight because parts of that area are being categorized as being a enhanced threat. That means several reports of wind damage are expected with more persistent and intense wind.

There is also potential for another stronger storms continuing into Thursday morning and then reemerging Thursday night.

Geelhart says there’s a cold front working its way through the area but once that gets through on Friday skies should clear
