BNSF to award Galesburg community award

Burlington Northern Santa Fe will be presenting the city of Galesburg with a special award on Monday.

The presentation will kick off at 12:30 at 3598 Saluda Road in front of BNSF business cars.

BNSF’s Railway Heritage Community Award recognizes special communities on the railway network that embrace the past, present and future ties to freight railroads.

Vice President of Community Affairs for BNSF, Andrew Johnsen says, “BNSF is proud to celebrate our shared history and continued partnership with the city of Galesburg. Together we’ve grown the economy in Illinois for well over a century, and we’re committed to that partnership for the next century.”

In addition, BNSF will be donating $10,000 to the Galesburg Community Foundation and another $15,000 will be given to the Orpheum Theatre to assist with renovations.

Following the presentation, business and civic leaders will board BNSF business cars for a rolling reception, and will feature several community organizations including youth from the YMCA.

BNSF Railway is one of North America’s largest freight transportation companies, owning approximately 32,500 miles of track. They are also the largest employer in Galesburg.
