Knoxville Alderman pass liquor sale time changes

In an effort to update and bring Knoxville more in-line with Knox County and Galesburg, the city council has passed a change in ordinance’s for the Liquor service hours of operation.

The new hours of sale would allow retailers to sell alcohol starting at 7 a.m. all week long and ending at 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday; and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The change to the ordinance passed without a vote against it, Alderman Toby Myers requested that all of the liquor license owners be notified of the changes to which Mayor Dennis Maurer agreed.

The Council also approved the purchase of a tiller for the city’s Case I-H tractor. The tiller will be paid for by the water and streets departments at a cost of $2,165.

A request for $200 for the Car Cruise Committee for advertising was approved. Police Chief Ron Poyner, who sits on the committee, says they usually ask for $700, but were able to raise $500 this year and just need the difference.

In a letter to the council, the Knoxville Fire Department requested selling hot dogs during the 4th of July celebration, which the alderman approved of as well.

Alderman Jim McGovern was absent from last night’s meeting.
