County general fund deficit over a million dollars

Several line items in the Knox County budget are running low on funds and departments are spending more than they’re taking in.
That was the general message given by county Treasurer Robin Davis at last night’s Knox County Finance Committee meeting when giving the county treasurer’s report.

She said the county’s general fund is running a deficit of a little over 1 million dollars ($1,003,483.69), along with that she said the county is behind on some of the taxes collected.

“We are going to be getting taxes. We will do a distribuition towards the end of this month, with all the taxes we’ve already collected. At this point we’re at about $3 million, typically it’s $8 million,” Davis says.

She says too that the state is behind on paying the Mary Davis home, only one month has been paid and committee member Bob Bondi sayd it was behind around $600 thousand.

The committee did pass several items including Health Savings Account contributions for the next fiscal year, a list of county credit cards, and amending the county’s payroll processing policy.
