Bustos, Durbin, Duckworth raise concerns over Comey firing

The three congressmen, all Democrats, who represent Knox County have raised concerns over President Donald Trump’s firing of FBI Director of James Comey on Wednesday and called for a special prosecutor to investigate the Trump campaign’s possible ties to Russia.17th District Rep. Cheri Bustos has likened President Donald Trump choosing the next person in charge of investigating him to a “fox deciding who’s in charge of security at the hen house.”

That statement came from Bustos’ press office with in the hour that news broke that Trump had abruptly fired FBI director James Comey.

Bustos joined many Democrats and some Republicans in calling for a special prosecutor.

A Democratic member of the Senate Judiciary questions whether whoever is selected as America’s next top cop will fairly investigate the Trump campaign’s tie to Russia.

Sen. Dick Durbin read a statement on floor of the U.S. Senate yesterday following news of President Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey.

He in part read “any attempt to stop or undermine this FBI investigation would raise grave constitutional issues.”

Sen. Tammy Duckworth also issued a statement calling for an independent prosecutor saying Comey’s firing eliminates any doubts about the need for an “independent and impartial investigation.”
