Songs and stories of WWI to be staged ‘Over There’ at Prairie Players

A musical revue of WWI songs opened last weekend and this weekend “Over There” is coming over here.
The Starry Night Repertory Theatre of Macomb staged the show under the direction of Galesburg’s Lily Blouin in Macomb and now this weekend will be on the marquee at Prairie Players Civic Theatre on South Seminary St.

Blouin also co-produced and wrote the show although she says it’s probably more accurate to say she “coordinated the show.”

She uses songs and letters giving first hands accounts of the war as well as historic speeches.

The show introduces the audience to characters in both the trenches and homefront including politicians like President Woodrow Wilson.

Another name for the war was “Forgotten War”.

And chances are the war will become more forgotten as years go by as the last veteran of World War I died a few years ago.

“When I started to really think about that and the show I thought it was really important that we take a minute and remember because there aren’t people doing it for us anymore so the job is ours now,” Blouin says. “…to kind of look back and say ‘why wasn’t it the last war and why does this keep happening and what can we do?”

Tickets are $12 for adults with discounts for students and military.
